Cigar Review Overview: Partagas, El Pulpo, La Gloria, Oscar and More

Cigar Reviews by Jamie Stevens
Over the past three months, I have been lucky to have been able to smoke five great sticks from Cigar Place: Partagas Valle Verde, 2012 Oscar Valladares, La Gloria Cubana Series S, El Pulpo, and the Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 1 Toro. Here is a recap below of each of the cigars including the rating of all five.
Partagas Valle Verde
Harsh, smoky, and spicy! I had some struggles with this cigar, especially in the first half. The cigar is very harsh and smoky. The bitterness in the beginning left a poor taste in my mouth (literally). My mouth was so dry I was dying almost by the second half. There were some glimmers of hope at the midway point with the sweetness and chocolate, but it didn’t last long. I also struggled with the burn being a bit wavy which didn’t help the situation. Another cigar I need to smoke again. Score 88.
El Pulpo by Artesano Del Tobacco Belicoso Grande
This cigar was literally a battle of flavors. Starting off a bit bitter with some Earth tones, you can really notice the flavors of the Mexican San Andres wrapper coming through. The second half of the smoke is the real winner here with the increase in sweetness, leather, and nuttiness. It felt like all of these flavors were working together so well to make it enjoyable. Also, there is an Octopus on the band… that’s winning. Score 92.
La Gloria Cubana Series S
This cigar has many of my favorite flavors: nuttiness, coffee, Earth tones and creamy to bit, you can’t go wrong. Also, the construction on this cigar was literally flawless. There was a major change in the profile halfway through which caught me off guard and was a nice surprise that made the cigar memorable and enjoyable. Score 92.
2012 by Oscar Valladares
Honestly, this cigar was underwhelming for me. There were highlights of nuttiness and citrus notes, but they were one dimensional and honestly didn’t last throughout my entire smoke time. There are no complaints about the actual construction or burn of the smoke, but the cigar was just bland. I will definitely have to smoke it again someday. Score 80.
Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 1 Toro
A relaxing smoke with great flavors, I really enjoyed this cigar. The flavor profile stays consistent, but the slight change of nuttiness and fruit makes a big impact on how the notes of pepper and toast all work together. Don’t let the overabundance of smoke deter you from trying this cigar, it is a real winner. It is also a cigar that can be smoked at any time! Score 90.
I am very excited to smoke my next five cigars from Cigar Place!
