Oh, this rain is starting to drive me a little insane. Literally non-stop these past few weeks, which puts a damper on my smoking experience. I don’t often have the time to smoke in a lounge (work, kid, life etc.), so I really enjoy the times where I can relax on my patio or take a walk with my dog and enjoy my smoke. However, today it looks like I am having to retreat into my overly packed garage and smoke the Montecristo White Magnum Especial. This elegant cigar is aged three years and has both Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers, Nicaraguan binder, and a golden Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. The cigar stands on with the classic white double band showcasing the Montecristo name as well as the “White Series.” This “Mac Daddy” (6x60) is pretty hefty and is part of the series that is one of the most popular in the cigar industry.
First Half Filled with Nuttiness and Florals
The first half of my smoke is filled with nuttiness and florals that is pretty tame that leans the smoke more on the mild side. I am pretty much huddled in the corner of the garage away from the rain and wind watching as my new Fall decorations get blown away. I love Fall, don’t get me wrong, but I do miss the sunshine of summer. I often get the dreaded “seasonal depression” and have to try to build myself out of it. The cigar is an easy smoke so far and very much a typical “Connecticut.” Towards the end of the first half the cigar picks up strength and adds some cedar and pepper notes. It is a nice change due to the added flavors and not to not leave it so one dimensional.
Nutty Profiles Increase
The second half is all about the nuts…..yea, I said it. The nutty profiles increase so much that it is pretty much the dominant flavor throughout the second half. The cigarhas also had a pretty nice burn and draw to it as well which is helpful. I paired my smoke with my typical breakfast blend coffee and Hazelnut creamer. It really just adds to the nuttiness. The rain seems to have subsided some, but it is still the typical Pennsylvania grey outside. Towards the end of the second half, I get a some hints of leather but that’s about it. It has continued to stay more on the medium bodied side towards the end. The cigar produces quite a bit of smoke as well, feeling like I was at a teenage party most of the time. Due to being in the garage, it is more prominent due to ventilation issues.
Overall, I like this smoke. Is it perfect? No. But I do think it is consistent throughout and has nice flavor profiles. Make sure you have the time to smoke this one, took me almost two hours.
