Introduction
Macanudo is one of the most loved and recognizable brands in the cigar industry and this cigar is one of their top-sellers! No matter what cigar shop I go into, I am 99% sure I will find one of their cigars. Not only is this a perfect starter smoke for the novice smoker, but it is also a great morning smoke due to its mild flavors. It has both a creative combination of Mexican long fillers and Dominican Piloto Cubano side by side with a tan Connecticut wrapper.
I have unfortunately had to retreat to my garage to smoke this morning. The rain is pouring down pretty hard right now and I would rather not get soaked before I start my day. We have gone without rain for quite a while now, so it is quite needed. However, I just looked up the weather on my phone and it seems like this will last two weeks! I am pairing my smoke with my morning coffee (a light roast with butterscotch creamer). Unlike a lot of people I know, I enjoy getting up early and starting the day.
First Half
The first half of my smoke is very, very mild. There are hints of citrus and a smooth creaminess to it. I am also surprised about the amount of smoke that is now in my garage. There are also some leather notes on the retrohale, but it is quite minimum. It is nice to enjoy the silence of the rain coming down, even though it was rudely interrupted by the constant dinging of my work phone going off.
Second Half
There are a few changes leading into the second half. The intensity seems to pick up some, but I would still classify this as a mild cigar. There is some spiciness now to the flavors, which is nice correlating with the sweetness of the citrus. The cigar is still very smooth and creamy. The smoke in my garage has also died down quite a bit. I have moved to the back of my garage and am now sitting on one of my weight benches, which reminds me that I need to do chest and biceps at the gym today.
Burn/Draw
The draw was near perfect as well as the burn. I only had to touch up one time, but I admit that was due to user error.
Final
After about an hour and a half of smoking, the Macanudo Café Hyde Park finishes out with all of the smooth and creaminess that it started with. I will say that the flavors in this cigar don't jump out at you. However, they are consistent and almost reliable, which is why I can see this cigar being so popular. It is perfect for the beginner cigar smoker as well as a great morning smoke for the more experienced cigar smokers.
