The sun is out, the birds are chirping, and somewhere in the distance, and I am trying to convince myself that this is the year I’ll finally rock that certain swimsuit with confidence. Ah yes, swimsuit season is upon us and I couldn’t be happier. Naturally, I did what any red-blooded cigar lover with no interest in working out right now would do—I grabbed the CAO MX2 Robusto courtesy of Cigar Place, didn’t put on SPF 50 (I know, that’s bad) and plopped myself into a lawn chair like a retired Bond villain on my patio.

Wrapped in Two layers of Maduro Goodness

Let me tell you: this thing is as dark as the inside of a tanning booth during a power outage. Wrapped in two—yes, two—layers of Maduro goodness (Connecticut Broadleaf outside, Brazilian inside), the CAO MX2 Robusto looks like it’s wearing a tuxedo made of roasted beans. Like someone rolled up a dark latte and handed it to you with a smile.

CAO MX2 Robusto Cigar review

The first half my smoke, I am hit with a bold wave of dark chocolate and coffee notes—basically dessert in smoke form. If cigars could talk, this one would whisper, “You don’t need abs, you need ambiance.” There’s a sweet earthiness to it also, the kind that says, “Go ahead, eat that second margarita. I won’t judge.”

Notes of Cocoa and Leather

Halfway through my smoke, I was sweating like a popsicle in Phoenix, but this stick kept its cool. There are notes of cocoa and leather all mixed together. There is also still some sweetness to it, but I can’t figure out what it is. The draw is perfect and not an ounce of waviness in the burn, despite me having to go inside in and out to get extra beverages.

In the final third, the cigar got a lot bolder and richer, like it knew I was half-asleep and decided to slap me awake with a shot. The strength ramped up, but never got too harsh. It’s that perfect balance: like rocking sunglasses that hide how much you’re judging the people who are sitting next to you…..I promise I only do that sometimes.

In conclusion, the CAO MX2 Robusto is the ideal smoke for hot days, lounging on the patio, or simply hiding from having to do an actual work. It’s unapologetically bold, and a fine reminder that sometimes the best beach body is the one holding a great cigar. SHOP NOW!
