Handmade at the Oliva Factory in Nicaragua
Can you believe it is almost Spring already? Last month flew by, which I am grateful for since January dragged by. It’s been a busy few months with work and just adult life responsibilities. I am preparing to make a trip to Columbus in the next few weeks for the Arnold Classic. I am a fan of the bodybuilding world in general and it impresses me with the amount of work these individuals put into their fitness. I wish I could only be so dedicated (as I eat a donut). Today, I am reviewing the Cain Maduro 550 Robusto. Handmade at the Oliva Factory in Nicaragua, this full-bodied smoke has both Nicaraguan fillers and binder showcasing the dark Maduro wrapper.
“Cain is For Tough Guys Only”
Can you believe I smoke outdoors now? The weather has climbed up into the 50’s, which has made my heart happy as well as allowing my seasonal depression to start to disappear. I had to prepare myself for this smoke. The popular Cain motto: “Cain is for tough guys only,” kind of gives you an indicator of how this smoke is going to be. The first half of my smoke is filled with Earth tones, coffee notes, and a lot of spice. It kicks your butt from the very beginning. I can feel the spice enter my nose too which makes my eyes water. I am so glad I have my go to snack ready in case of emergencies! I can’t imagine smoking this cigar in the morning or on an empty stomach, no thank you! I have started to do what I call the “smoke pace.” This happens usually when I smoke stronger cigars that may put me on my butt. I admit I have only experienced “sickness” once while smoking, and my patio didn’t appreciate the aftermath.
Spice Comes With Added Hints of Leather
Towards the halfway mark the spice increases more. I’m not going to lie; I am struggling a bit with this one. With the spice comes with added hints of leather and tons of smoke. I feel like I am in a cloud. If I was in my garage, it would be filled up by now. I am taking a bit of a break to grab my diet soda and maybe take a few bites of chocolate. This is not a cigar I recommend for novice smokers. Towards the end of my smoke the Earth tones come back and there is a smoothness to it….with still the same bite. It took me a long time to smoke this, more so than normal due to the harshness. The construction and draw as flawless throughout which helped.
Is this a favorite cigar of mine? No. But I do appreciate the strength and punch that it packs. Experienced smokers should try this one….I dare ya!
