Cigar Aficionado’s #2 Cigar of the Year
“Fa la la la la la.” I am doing my best to stay in the festive mood this Holiday season; however, I am in need of just a little bit of warmth. Today, I am smoking the Aging Room Quattro Original Concerto from Cigar Aficionado’s #2 Cigar of the Year sampler. I have always been a fan of Aging Room cigars, one of my favorite brands. So I was pleasantly surprised this was included in the sampler. It is sunny outside, but just a little brisk. I am currently double-layered on the jackets to keep myself warm. These premium limited cigars have a Sumatra wrapper with Dominican fillers and Indonesian tobacco. The brown and gold bands blend with the wrapper, which allows the number of veins on the wrapper to be showcased.
The First Half of the Quattro Original Concerto
The first half of my smoke has some light spice mixed with some bread notes. It is pretty smooth and mild, with a hint of nuttiness. I am enjoying watching my neighbor walk (or basically drag) his bulldog down the sidewalk. The dog seems to have the same feeling about the weather as I do. My dog is currently bundled up inside, due to an unfortunate trip to the ER last night. Towards the end of the first half, the spice kicks up a notch, and we get a mix of fruit notes. It is an odd combo, honestly, and not expected.
The Second Half of the Cigar
The second half brings a lot of the same flavors as before and keeps the spiciness. The cigar is still medium-bodied, which is indicative of the increased spice. There are some added Earth notes, which take up a lot of the previous bread flavor. I noticed a bit of a wave on the burn, but it was easily corrected. The draw was just perfect for me. I am currently pairing my smoke with a diet Coke, as I don’t think I could stomach any more coffee for the day. I have been trying to limit my caffeine intake lately, but that doesn’t seem to be working so well.
Overall
I really enjoyed the smooth transition in flavors and the different flavor blends. It is a unique smoke, and I can understand why it ranked so high in 2013. I feel like this is a cigar that once you smoke it a few times you can see the changes in flavors more and why it should be a staple in your humidor. You can definitely tell that the tobacco has aged for many years making it both balanced and refined.
