About Perdomo Cigars in Miami, Florida
Perdomo Cigar
Perdomo, a cigar brand mainly grown and created in Nicaragua, is sold globally by the corporation Tabacalera Perdomo. This cigar corporation, started by a third-generation maker of cigars, Nick Perdomo, Jr., launched in 1992. Today, the company has its base at Miami Lakes, Florida. As cigar manufacturers go, the company has risen from a small unit to a large-scale cigar firm, competing with the best in the business.
The Roots of the Leaves
The company of Perdomo, as it stands today, can be traced back to the little town named San Jose de la Lajas in Cuba. Southeast of Havana, the patriarch of the Perdomo clan, Silvio Perdomo, grew up here. A youth, he entered the cigar world as an apprentice for Cuesta y Cia sometime in the 1930s. In 1937, he switched jobs and was employed by H. Upmann. He remained here till 1945. Then he shifted to Partagas, remaining there till 1959. In 1948, Nicholas Perdomo went in his father's footsteps and entered the cigar industry as an apprentice to Marin and Trujillo. Gradually, working his way up, he became a senior staff member at H. Upmann. This was the biggest manufacturer of cigars in the whole of Cuba.
In the Blood
Cigar smokers are connoisseurs of every cigar on earth. They know cigars are made by individuals who have cigar-making abilities "in their blood," so to speak. Following the revolution in Cuba and a period of imprisonment for Silvio Perdomo and near incarceration for his son, Nicholas Perdomo managed to emigrate to the United States of America. He worked his way up the corporate ladder from a janitor to one of the largest general contractors Florida has known. In 1976, the family shifted to Florida (Miami). His son, Nick Jr., after a military stint, worked in the role of air traffic controller at Miami Airport.
The Way to Cigar Making
At the time when Nick Jr. wanted to take to cigar making with a passion, all the knowledge of cigars he had was from smoking one of them. In 1992, he started his own garage-sourced cigar company called Nick's Company. He did this as a part-time profession, retaining his normal employment in air traffic control. When all the cigar companies were making mild cigars, Nick's opted to change the trend and make full-bodied cigars with fillers from Ecuador. This was the wisest move he ever made, as demand for the spicy blend developed fast and furiously.
Expanding Operations
In the 1990s, the cigar industry witnessed a boom. The Perdomo family set up a huge production plant in Esteli in Nicaragua. That year alone, the company made a whopping sale of a million cigars. During this time, the company saw success like never before. The first-of-their-kind Perdomo box-pressed cigars were launched. Cigar smokers took to them like bees to honey. In 1999, after partnering up with Tabacalera, the company witnessed more success.
