Ashton Aged Maduro #56 Cigars
While Maduro cigars are widely available, the Ashton Aged Maduro #56 stands as a sophisticated outlier that demands to be experienced. Ashton is globally recognized for its high-end Sun Grown offerings, but this dark, enticing line proves the brand’s mastery extends across all profiles. The blend's reputation is well-earned, having received multiple 90+ ratings from Cigar Aficionado. The Aged Maduro derives its signature character and striking visual appeal from a meticulously selected Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, which undergoes a lengthy, natural fermentation process to achieve its iconic near-black hue.
In the hand, this rare wrapper feels remarkably smooth despite its rustic appearance, while the dense Dominican fillers provide a satisfying, premium heft. A gentle pre-light draw reveals distinct hints of oak, a testament to the patient aging process. The precision of the torcedores is evident in the effortless draw and a razor-sharp burn line that produces a firm, white ash. From the first light, this 6" x 56 Gordo delivers a generous volume of smoke, coating the palate with a rich chocolate sweetness and a velvety texture. As the experience settles, notes of roasted nuts and subtle spice emerge, maintaining a steady and refined profile throughout the duration of the smoke.
In an era defined by a trend toward ever-increasing strength, the Ashton Aged Maduro remains a benchmark for the quality medium-bodied category. This substantial ring gauge is an exceptional choice for those who prefer a cooler, slower-burning experience while exploring the darker side of premium leaf. If you find enjoyment in the CAO Gold Maduro or the Toraño Casa Toraño Maduro, this Ashton classic belongs in your regular rotation.
