AJ Fernandez has been known in recent years to take classic cigar brands that have all but disappeared and give them new life, and most of the time, that new life is far better than before. Such is precisely the case with the Trinidad Espiritu series, a hugely popular lineup that has quickly risen to the top. First came the Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 1, a 94-rated beast that gave a whole new look to the Trinidad name. Then, there was Espiritu Series No. 2, a spicy, bold follow-up to its highly refined counterpart. Now, AJ Fernandez and Rafael Nodal team up again, and the Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 3 has more than proven its worth in terms of cigar excellence. Like the others, Series No. 3 is made at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua, under the watchful eye of AJ Fernandez himself. The recipe for this one seems simple, but in fact was years in the making. Top-end Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos are nestled beneath a dark, oily Mexican Habano San Andres wrapper. The original blend used a Habano wrapper, and was bold, yet subtle. The second had a Brazilian leaf that added a spicy intensity. This version is somewhere in the middle, but as anyone who has enjoyed San Andres-wrapped cigars knows, it’s not your typical maduro experience. The Trinidad Espíritu Series No. 3 earned a standout #5 ranking on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2025, boasting a 95 rating and showcasing a masterful blend crafted by A.J. Fernandez for the Trinidad brand.
