Rocky Patel is known for having more blends and brands than just about anyone in the business, but 2024 was a bit of a different year for the infamous tobacco tycoon. One regular production blend was introduced to the world of premium cigars, and that one blend was a darned good one: Rocky Patel Gold Label. Made at Rocky’s own Tabacalera Villa Cuba S.A. in Esteli, Nicaragua, Gold Label was built from the ground up to be luxurious and sophisticated, but at the same time reasonably priced for a cigar of its stature. Well, once again, Rocky hit the nail on the head! Double Connecticut binders (both Broadleaf and Shade) hug a blend of filler leaves from Jalapa and Esteli—Nicaragua’s most fertile growing regions. To finish things off, a dark, oily Habano wrapper from Ecuador is applied and the whole package is aggressively box-pressed. The result is a top-shelf gem that has earned numerous 90+ ratings in Cigar Aficionado and changed the way many people look at Rocky Patel cigars.
