Plasencia Alma del Fuego
The third cigar from Nestor Plasencia and Company to bear the "Alma" name, Plasencia Alma del Fuego has soared to great heights since its 2019 release. With over 5 generations of growing experience, the Plasencia family is by no means new to tobacco. Over the past decade or so, however, brand patriarch and owner Nestor Plasencia has taken his family name into the actual cigar making side of things. The results, as one might expect, have been nothing short of incredible. With this particular release, the big story is the generous amount of Ometepe tobacco. An island formed by two volcanoes in the southwestern part of Nicaragua, Ometepe is known for producing some of the finest tobacco on the planet, mainly due to the high mineral content in the rich volcanic soil. Alma del Fuego uses both binder and filler tobaccos from Ometepe, along with added fillers from some of the other Plasencia farms, and a dark Nicaraguan wrapper leaf from Jalapa, another rich growing region known for top-notch tobacco. The result is a delectable treat that has since earned a 93 rating and a spot on Cigar Aficionado's coveted Top 25 list for 2019.
