Born in 2019, the Kristoff JT Signature Series is a premium boutique cigar named after Jarrid Trudeau, Vice President of Sales at Kristoff Cigars. Originally, a retailer had to obtain rights to sell this blend by having a special event with Trudeau, meaning this stick has quite an interesting background. It is rolled by hand at the Charles Fairmorn factory in the Dominican Republic, the site of production for many of Kristoff’s higher-end cigars. As for the blend, JT Signature Series begins with a unique filler blend of aged Mexican San Andres and Dominican leaves. This package is then wrapped in a Sumatra binder and finished with a rare Ecuadorian HVA(or Havana Vuelta Abajo) Habano wrapper. This cigar is considered by many to be one of the best Kristoff has ever released, and with good reason. It is a cigar made for connoisseurs, by connoisseurs.

The packaging is both modern and rustic, from the blue wooden chest to the grey and gold band adorning each vitola. The royal blue foot band denoting the blend is a luxurious finishing touch to this box-pressed beauty, making a fine contrast to the wrapper leaf’s gorgeous deep golden brown hue. Oily and finely crafted, Kristoff JT Signature Series is rolled to perform, providing a smooth draw and a tight grey ash. After clipping the trademark pigtail cap and firing up this masterpiece, the first puffs are pretty much what you would expect from a blend such as this, meaning a deep, earthy core is at the forefront from the very beginning. Notes of black pepper and cinnamon are the stars of the show, with spicy blasts from time to time and a delicious hint of graham cracker that lingers on the tip of the tongue. The finish is clean, but bold, and after all is said and done, the Kristoff JT Signature Series finishes as a heavy medium-bodied cigar.

Intended for a mature, well-seasoned audience, JT Signature Series is by no means a beginners’ cigar. Then again, if you are part of the cult following that regularly enjoys Kristoff cigars, you probably aren’t a beginner anyways. This medium-bodied cigar pairs well with single malt scotch or red wine and makes a great special occasion smoke.
