The Wise Man Maduro
When Nicholas Melillo left his long-time position with Drew Estate and started Foundation Cigars, his first release made massive waves throughout the industry. That release was El Gueguense, an ultra-premium cigar named after a Nicaraguan folk dance which translates literally to “The Wise Man.” Soon after, those waves became tsunamis with the introduction of The Wise Man Maduro, the dark, sultry follow-up to the original. In addition, blending and production has now shifted to the watchful eyes of Jaime and Don Pepin Garcia, two of the biggest names in the business. Now rolled by the skilled hands at the world famous My Father factory in Nicaragua, The Wise Man Maduro begins with an all-Nicaraguan filler and binder blend, including leaves from all 3 major growing regions: Jalapa, Condega, and Esteli. This package is then topped off with a gorgeous Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper leaf, something long-awaited from someone with a nickname like “Chief of the Broadleaf.” Was the final product as good as everyone was expecting? Well, a stellar 95 rating in Cigar Aficionado and a top spot on the famed magazine’s Top 25 Cigars of 2018 list pretty much says it all!
