In the world of premium cigars, CAO is a name that has come and gone over the years, so to speak, in that at times they seem to disappear into the background, but out of nowhere they’re again riding the crest of the wave. The latter is certainly the case with cigars like CAO Pilon Anejo, a special blend that was originally intended to be a one-time offering but has now been given a permanent spot in the company’s star-studded portfolio. “Pilon Anejo” literally translates to “aged pile,” and it refers to the centuries-old curing technique the folks at CAO and STG Danli in Honduras decided to use to get the tobacco just right for the blend. As far as the blend goes, the filler blend consists of Seco and Ligero leaves from Nicaragua. The binder is Nicaraguan Habano, and the wrapper is an exquisite, matured Ecuadorian Habano leaf that pulls everything together. The tobacco has undergone extensive aging and curing prior to rolling, but even still, after manufacture, the cigars rest another 2 years to fully mature, making this project a very long time in the making.
