Asylum 867 Midnight Oil is the first flavor-infused cigar to bear the Asylum name. This blend was brought about when masterminds Tom Lazuka and Christian Eiroa wanted to do something different with their already hugely successful Asylum brand. The goal was to attract a new audience, people who may not have had much exposure to the world of premium cigars. The result was astounding, and to this day fans of both traditional and flavored cigars revere this stick as one of Asylum’s most innovative lines. Originally marketed as Deadwood Tobacco Co. Chasing the Dragon, the Asylum 867 now sports new packaging but still offers the same 3 originally offered varieties: Midnight Oil, Auntie, and Zero. The Midnight Oil is the line where you get the big sizes, including a 6” x 54, a 6” x 60, and a massive 7” x 70, all offering varying renditions of the flavor profile. Made in Honduras under the supervision of Christian Eiroa himself, the 867 series are all Honduran puros, meaning all tobacco used in the production of the cigar is from Honduras. The cigars are infused using a method called steeping, which is similar to aromatherapy. The cap is also sweetened to further influence the unique flavor profile.
