However, when Christian Eiroa and his famed Asylum brand decided to make a coffee-infused stick, even cigar snobs that steer clear of flavored cigars started getting excited. Behold, Asylum Cool Brew! The second Asylum cigar to offer a flavor-infused profile, following the successful 867 series, Cool Brew is a true Honduran puro made at the El Aladino factory in Honduras. Wrapper, filler, and binder tobacco for this blend all come from the family farms in Honduras, and the wrapper leaf is a well-aged dark brown Maduro. What sets this cigar apart from the pack is the unique steeping method used to flavor the tobacco. The cigars are stored in a closed environment to absorb the flavors of whatever is the targeted result. For this case, a minty coffee/espresso note seems to be the main goal.

Packaging for this blend keeps in tune with most of the Asylum cigars, including a modernized cedar chest adorned with the famed Asylum skull motif. The bands are traditional Asylum style as well, and for this case the color of choice is teal to denote the Cool Brew blend. Construction, as usual, is incredible for each and every cigar, as Christian Eiroa and his team take quality and consistency very seriously, even of fun projects like this. An easy draw produces dense clouds of ultra-flavorful smoke, each puff seemingly introducing new notes. The sweet coffee note is pronounced from first light and carries on throughout the duration of the cigar. The core of the flavor profile is earthy tobacco flavor with classic maduro notes including espresso, dark chocolate, and cinnamon. Hints of cream and mint pop in and out as the cigar progresses, and the finish is long and thick, leaving a trace of sweet milk chocolate. Very flavorful but easy on the palate, Cool Brew finishes as a medium-bodied cigar.

One of the reasons Eiroa and his team decided to go with an infused cigar was to attract new cigar enthusiasts. This stick couldn’t be a better option as far as beginners’ cigars go, as it is medium-bodied at its strongest point and very easy to enjoy. Pair it with your favorite coffee concoction or just enjoy it alongside a glass of cold water in order to truly appreciate all the interesting flavor notes it has to offer. Fans of mildly-infused cigars such as Drew Estate Larutan would definitely appreciate what this cigar has to offer, but if we are being honest, just about anyone will likely enjoy Cool Brew.
