If you have had any dabblings with the cigar world at all over the past few years, you are probably no stranger to the 2012 by Oscar series by Oscar Valladares. What you may not know, however, is that several years back, a special cigar was released within the series, destined for one small smoke shop. Production was limited to 200 boxes, and when it was done, it was done. Well, Oscar Valladares, being the peoples’ champ that he is, decided to bring that special stick back as a regular production cigar. Behold, the 2012 by Oscar Barber Pole! Made in Honduras at Valladares’ own factory, this unique blend uses two wrapper leaves rolled, of course, in barber pole fashion. Unlike many barber pole cigars, however, that use somewhat generic Connecticut and maduro leaves, this heavily box-pressed beauty uses aged San Andres Maduro leaves from Mexico paired with green Candela for contrast. The binder is Nicaraguan, and the filler blend consists of aged leaves from Honduras and Nicaragua. The result is a medium-full-bodied treat that once you smoke, you’ll never forget.
