It is hard to believe that a brand with as a long a history as Romeo y Julieta could be constantly innovating, but the new Romeo Anejo is proof that not only can they, but they can do it darn well. Anejo is Spanish for “aged” and every aspect of this cigar fits the moniker. From the dark and sultry Connecticut broadleaf wrapper from 2010, to the Dominican Olor binder from 2008, all the way to the Nicaraguan and Honduran filler tobaccos from 2009, this cigar is chock full of well aged tobacco. The result is an amazing smooth yet still medium-to-full bodied smoke.

Romeo Anejo has a smooth, sweet and earthy prelight draw and aroma which carries over to the first few relaxing puffs. Each draw brings in more of the chocolate and cinnamon sweet heat which is inherent in a well aged Connecticut wrapper. The true spice hides until the second half of the cigar where the power of the Nicaraguan and Honduran leaf shines.

The body of Romeo Anejo is different than what you are used to from Romeo y Julieta, but the smoothness behind it lets you know that you are smoking a brand that is an expert in the crafting of a fine premium cigar. This cigar is perfect to pair with a dark espresso after a full meal and will hold up against even the smokiest of single malt scotches. For a different take on an Anejo cigar, we would recommend the Arturo Fuente Anejo, which was the first brand to enter the word in the cigar smoker’s lexicon.
