Liga Privada Undercrown Gordito is among the most popular cigars to come out of the Drew Estate factory to date. Following in the footsteps of the now world-famous No. 9 and T52, Undercrown can be considered part of the same family. In fact, if it weren’t for its ultra-premium big brothers, Undercrown probably would have never come into existence. As the story goes according to Jonathan Drew, “In early 2009 we asked our torcedores to smoke less Liga Privada cigars because they were leaving too few to be exported… rather than being disgruntled they responded by blending their own signature liga(blend).” To do this, the folks at Drew Estate used many of the same rare tobaccos used in T52 and No. 9, but of different primings and vintages. Undercrown consists of a top shelf combination of Nicaraguan Cuban seed and Brazilian Mata Fina  filler tobaccos, a T52 Connecticut River Valley stalk cut and cured Habano binder, and a rare San Andres Maduro wrapper known as Otapan Negro Ultimo Corte(Spanish for Last Cut Black Otapan). The end result went from a “throw-around” cigar enjoyed by rollers at the factory to a masterpiece that earned a spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 in no time flat.

Firmly packed, masterfully rolled, and beautifully packaged, Undercrown truly shines in terms of appearance. However, that is only the beginning. The firm draw burns the cigar slowly, producing long, silky ribbons of translucent blue smoke that coats the palate like syrup. With earthy tobacco as the core flavor, Undercrown evolves into a luxurious array of nutty, creamy blasts of cocoa and sweet Nicaraguan spice. The overall profile is similar to the “classic maduro profile,” yet much more refined. A sweet, thick finish completes the phenomenal bouquet of flavor, proving that Undercrown is definitely one of a kind. Medium-full-bodied in stature, Undercrown is available in a vast array of sizes, each one geared to the modern connoisseur. This 6” x 60 Gordito size provides hours of cool, robust smoke and a luxurious room note.

When Drew Estate comes out with a non-flavored cigar, you can just about bank on the fact that it’s an aficionado-level stick aimed directly at those with well-seasoned palates. Undercrown is no different. Medium-full-bodied and extensively complex, Undercrown is literally made by cigar lovers, for cigar lovers, so you know you can’t go wrong. It pairs well with bourbon, scotch, or red wine and is comparable to Liga Privada No. 9 and Liga Privada T52, both of which Undercrown was based on.  Speaking of Undercrown’s name and purpose, Jonathan Drew declares,  “It is always the master makers who are heralded, but the reality is that great cigars are the product of many talented people, most of whom toil in factories with no publicity ever. They are the uncelebrated heroes who make all of our lives more pleasurable with the cigars they craft.” Thus, Liga Privada Undercrown Gordito was born. Never hesitate to stock up, as this gem of a cigar is perpetually in extremely high demand.
