Joya De Nicaragua Joya Red Short Churchill cigars are smaller 4 3/4 inches by 48 ring. Mostly known for their more full-bodied cigars, Joya de Nicaragua set their sites on the medium-bodied market in 2014 and they hit it out of the park with the new Joya Red. Blended by the president of the company, Juan Ignacio Martinez, and long time factory manager, Leonel Raudez, Joya Red is an exceptionally well made and great tasting cigar. The name comes from the reddish-brown hued Nicaraguan Habano wrapper leaf that drapes over the Nicaraguan binder and filler tobacco. As with many puros from this country, one would expect a full-bodied cigar, but the perfection in this blend puts it right in the middle at a medium.
The stunning red and gold band harmonizes beautifully with the hue of the wrapper leaf. Prior to lighting, the cigar emanates a rich aroma of dark chocolate and cedar, enticing the senses. This captivating blend persists through the initial puffs, though gradually the notes of cedar and earth assert themselves more prominently. While a subtle hint of spice emerges on the retrohale, it never detracts from the exquisite natural sweetness derived from the carefully aged tobacco.
Joya De Nicaragua is mainly known for their fuller bodied sticks, but with Joya Red they are proving that they should really just be known for making great cigars no matter the strength.
