The CyB Corona Real cigar, formerly Cuenca y Blanco Corona Real cigar, is an ambitious departure for a company famous for one of the first, if not the first, full-bodied Nicaraguan Puros. Coming from the Joya de Nicaragua factory, source of the famous JdN Antaño, the CyB is not a Puro of any origin but a cigar containing tobaccos from a variety of locales and types. Created by Jose Blanco, formerly of La Aurora, the heart of the cigar is a blend of Nicaraguan leaf grown in the shadow of the Ometepe volcanos and the dark soils of Esteli mixed with Peruvian long-filler. A Dominican Piloto Cubano binder and Ecuadorian Habano wrapper complete the tour of some of the world's the best growing regions and set the strength as a solid medium.

As always from JdN, the construction of each vitola is top notch, with the flawless, toothy Habano carefully laid over the interior tobaccos with very few veins or seams in sight. The smell of the unlit cigar is reminiscent of harvested and dried alfalfa, while the heat from a good flame will immediately open up the soft cocoa flavors of the cold draw into a robust, solid smoke layered with oak and espresso. The nose begins to pick up a good kick of spice as the cigar settles in, with some leathery and floral notes to keep things interesting.

A solid and unpretentious stogie, the CyB should please any smoker who enjoys Nicaraguan cigars and those who prefer their smokes to be a little more wire-ranging. Excellent for the day's second cigar after an Ashton Cabinet or the evening's first before taking on a Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva, this offering from Joya de Nicaragua pairs as well with a rich black coffee as it does with a whiskey cocktail.
