The Perdomo ESV 2002 Maduro Torpedo is a cigar that showcases just how good the folks at Tabacalera Perdomo can do it. Every now and then, a given cigar company cooks up a cigar that is an absolute show stopper in every aspect--one that absolutely nothing negative can be said about, and that people simply cannot get enough of. Such is the case with this ultra-premium offering from Nick Perdomo and friends. The Estate Seleccion Vintage 2002 is the long awaited follow-up to the ESV 1991 and is among the premier cigars in Nick Perdomo's portfolio. Rich and flavorful Nicaraguan filler and binder leaves are expertly rolled inside a very special triple fermented Nicaraguan Sungrown Habano maduro wrapper. These special leaves have spent most of their lives aging in bourbon casks to take on a sweet and very unique flavor, bringing the whole package together.

Puff on an ESV 2002 before lighting and there is a very definitive cocoa note. This is not uncommon for Nicaraguan Maduro tobacco, but this cigar seems to go above and beyond the usual. The cigar is nearly flawless, with no large veins and seamless construction. The black and silver signature band nicely compliment the jet black, extra oily maduro wrapper leaf adorning this top notch stick. Upon lighting, the easy draw pours out smooth white smoke laced with flavors of creamy semi-sweet chocolate and nutmeg. The thick smoke rolls around on the palate leaving a very subtle peppery finish behind, along with just a hint of vanilla. It's medium to full bodied and expertly balanced.

The Perdomo ESV 2002 is most definitely a connoisseur’s cigar. It's meant to be enjoyed by those with sophisticated palates and very discriminating tastes. At the same time, however, it's tame enough on the wallet to be enjoyed by just about anyone. It's rich and strong, but not overpowering in any sense. The ESV 2002 pairs nicely with coffee, hot chocolate, or a solid full-bodied red wine, perhaps even a Tawny Port. Those that enjoy this cigar may also want to try the Arturo Fuente Anejo, La Gloria Cubana Maduro, or a Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Maduro. Perdomo ESV 2002 is an instant classic that demands a try from anyone, whether a novice or a sophisticated aficionado.
