Ambos Mundos means “both worlds,” referring to the two wrappers that Pete Johnson has picked out for this new addition to the Tatuaje family. The Ambos Mundos line is intended to be the budget line for the Tatuaje Family. The Ambos Mundos line is produced at Tabacalera Garcia in Esteli, Nicaraugua with grade B and C tobacco to help keep costs down. The tobacco will sometimes have small blemishes on it or require extra fermentation to make it useable for cigar smoking. The rest of the Tatuaje line is produced in Miami making them a more expensive cigar due to higher production costs.
The Ambos Mundos Habano Grande No. 1 with the cream colored band is a Nicaraguan puro that would really do best with some aging. The flavors are very straightforward and lack the complexity of the rest of the Tatuaje line but for a $5 stick, these aren't bad at all. Notes of earth, woods, and nuts are the dominant flavors here. The ash is ridged and flowery which doesn't allow for holding an ash very long without wearing it and though the burn line is wavy at times, it never gets out of control.
My advice, pick up a box or two of these and let them sit a good 6+ months to mellow out and fully develop.
