Ambos Mundos means “both worlds,” referring to the two wrappers that Pete Johnson has picked out for this new addition to the Tatuaje family. The Ambos Mundos line is intended to be the budget line for the Tatuaje Family. The Ambos Mundos line is produced at Tabacalera Garcia in Esteli, Nicaraugua with grade B and C tobacco to help keep costs down. The tobacco will sometimes have small blemishes on it or require extra fermentation to make it useable for cigar smoking. The rest of the Tatuaje line is produced in Miami making them a more expensive cigar due to higher production costs.
The Ambos Mundos Sumatra Toro No. 2 boasts a red band and is an Ecuadoran wrapped though Nicaraguan filled and bound stick. There is a little more flavor in the Sumatra wrapped stick. There is some pepper that sits at the back of your throat mixed with some nuts, chocolate cream, and coffee though the flavors are a bit rough around the edges. The burn line as much wavier on this one than the Habano and required a touch up or two, but overall the Sumatra would still be my winner if I had to pick only one.
My advice, pick up a box or two of these and let them sit a good 6+ months to mellow out and fully develop.
