Camacho Diploma Cigars
The completely redesigned Camacho Diploma cigar is a master-class example of what happens when potential meets reality. Many are the claims of premium smokes both extra bold and super complex, but usually they are one or the other and while certainly enjoyable, the smoker might feel regret at a missed opportunity. The Diploma, however, delivers on the promise. While the original was a Honduran Puro of modest character, the new version is an all-out beast. The filler is powered by the famous Camacho Corojo tobacco blended with potent Navarette and Criollo Ligero, while more Corojo is used as the binder. Now imagine all of this beneath a splendid Habana 2000 wrapper from Ecuador. Dee-lish!
Once alight, the cigar starts off slow with soft flavors of flowers and milk. Aw, who are we kidding? This stogie stands and delivers from the get-go with loads of pepper and dark, toasty wood. The sweet spot and other unpredictable moments offer some respite with milder black tea and nut flavors, but these are packed behind the heavy spice and leather and coffee that forms the main backbone of the profile. We’ve already noted this cigar’s full strength and flavor, so it goes without saying that novice enthusiasts should approach this as an elective only. Fans of big, complex smokes must consider it a core requirement to becoming a full-bodied expert. Looking for more in this category, the La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Reserva and Quesada Q D'Etat certainly make the grade.
