Not what one expects from an Altadis offering, the Warlock is a powerful, full-bodied cigar that will mystify you with the depth of flavors it provides. Crafted by master cigar maker Omar Ortez, this Nicaraguan smoke perfectly blends aged filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic with a robust, oily Ecuadorian Cubano wrapper. Some Nicaraguan cigars can overpower you without letting through the wonderful flavors of the aged tobacco; the Warlock is not one of these cigars. The subtle nuances are there while the power is just enough to please smokers of the heaviest cigars.
The black and silver band that wraps this cigar is a hint to the evil power that is enclosed within the leaves and waiting to be let out. The dark, toothy wrapper lets its flavorful presence be known as soon as match hits foot. After the initial spell wears down, the binder and filler start to work their magic and you can tell this cigar was made by one of the masters. The smoke is plentiful and the enticing. Even though full-bodied, Warlock still lets through the spiciness and earthy flavors one would expect from a high-quality cigar made in this region.
The Warlock holds up against the most powerful of Camacho and Punch cigars. It has a strong, bold taste that will pair amazingly with the darkest of beers or a nice after dinner espresso. This cigar ranked the ninth best cigar of 2011 by Cigar Aficionado. If you like this cigar you will also enjoy the Camacho Triple Maduro or a CAO Brazilia.
