Illusione Maduro Cigars
Illusione Maduro
Dion Giolito's Illusione has been one of the most highly regarded line of cigars made today. The Nicaraguan puros are made at the Raíces Cubanas factory in Danlí, Honduras. This is the same factory responsible for producing the award-winning Alec Bradley, Padilla and Viaje cigars, which are some of the hottest in the world. People wondered when Dion would introduce a Maduro wrapper across his entire line, as he previously restricted it to a special version of his ~hl~ Lancero. In early 2011, the announcement came that the entire Illusione core line, known as The Original Document, would be getting a Maduro wrapper. Dion chose a dark and hearty Maduro wrapper from the San Andrés Valley in Mexico to place over his AGANORSA Nicaraguan binder and fillers.
One of the greatest strengths of the Illusione line-up has been the ability to make unique flavor profiles for each individual size and that extends to the Maduro line. The Mexican Maduro adds leather, cocoa and earth to the Nicaraguan fillers which are noted for their nuttiness, cedar and black pepper. It's a great contrast of sweet and spicy with solid earth notes underneath. Strength and body are both increased a bit, but the Illusione Maduros are closer to the Illusione Original Document than the Illusione ULTRA. For many, this was one of the most exciting releases of the year, and Dion definitely delivered on the high expectations.
