Tatuaje La Casita Criolla

In July of 2011, Pete Johnson of Tatuaje brought back an old school cigar style, the Broadleaf Puro. While Fausto, Tatuaje's other new line for 2011, features all Ligero, Pete decided to create a cigar using only Broadleaf tobacco. This is a concept that had been used by smaller American manufacturers in the early twentieth century. With the help of Jaime García, President of My Father Cigars, Pete developed a cigar that featured Connecticut Broadleaf as filler, binder and wrapper. While Tatuaje is known for using Broadleaf as a wrapper, using it as binder and filler is relatively uncommon in today's marketplace, making La Casita Criolla a unique revival of an old trade.

For 2011, Tatuaje presented three sizes: HCB (Corona), HCBC (Corona Gorda) and HCBF (Short Churchill) — which are all made at Jaime García's My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua. While there is the normal Tatuaje spice at the beginning, the cigar offers classic Broadleaf sweetness with leather, nuts, coffee and earth easily recognizable. It's one of the lighter flavor profiles of the Tatuaje line-up, but it delivers an immense of richness through each of the line. La Casita Criolla has garnered high ratings and praise, with many calling this the best cigar of the year.
