CAO is one of the most creative cigar companies out there where it comes to blending cigars, and they have another winner on their hands with CAO Criollo. The wrapper on this cigar is where the magic lies. Translated, Criollo means “native seed”, and is a highly sought after wrapper that is just a hair milder than a Corojo wrapper, but has a definite spice. The main problem with this unique wrapper is how hard it is to grow. The Criollo 98 is a hybrid which made the wrapper much more hearty and able to withstand tough growing conditions. This outstanding Nicaraguan wrapper leaf surrounds Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos, making this a Puro that is sure to delight those that love medium-to-full bodied cigars.
In an age where cigar manufacturers are trying to get bolder and bigger with their bands, CAO has taken the opposite approach with the Criollo. The muted brown and tobacco leaf textured band is almost hard to discern from the actual cigar itself. Underneath the mottled brown wrapper is a very dense cigar packed full of flavorful tobacco. The amount of filler made this a slightly stiffer draw, but not one that distracts from the amazing flavors CAO Criollo produces. Despite it’s fuller body, this was one smooth cigar. Creamy but with that signature Criollo spice on the backend made for one enjoyable smoke.
Criollo is another excellent cigar from the creative minds of CAO. A medium-to-full bodied cigar that is not too heavy for new smokers wanting to venture into a slightly deeper smoking experience, but flavorful enough to keep lovers of the heartiest cigars happy. The spicy nature of this cigar paired perfectly with a cool pilsner. For a slightly different spicy cigar experience, CAO Cameroon may be right up your alley.
