Diamond Crown Julius Caesar Cigars
Diamond Crown Julius Caesar
The Diamond Crown Julius Caesar cigar is not named after the famed Roman emperor as might be expected. Instead, this exquisite example of tobacco-rolling mastery memorializes Julius Caesar Newman, founder of the only premium cigar company still owned by its original family: the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. Founded by J.C. in 1895 and faithfully ruled by his descendants ever since, the company created this, the third Diamond Crown style, in 2010 to honor their patriarch using a blend of five year aged leaves from around the Caribbean basin of Central America which are bound in a Dominican leaf itself contained within one from Ecuador.
A marble bust of Julius himself peers from the band, and you will have no trouble meeting his gaze as you appraise the quality of construction. The chewy, rich, chocolate-brown leaf with aroma to match clips easily to reveal darker tobacco at the core of the vitola. The first third of the cigar coats the tongue with biscuit and crisp white pepper, more smooth than spicy. Overarching flavors of cocoa and nuts enter once the sweet spot has been passed, supported on a column of mellow woodiness. The cigar remains easy to smoke to the end as all the prior flavors congress with a flourish.
Smokers who enjoy mild cigars will wish the Diamond Crown Julius Caesar could be their daily smoke despite the price, but as an occasional treat it is definitely worth having in your humidor. If the price is above your rank, save some coin and substitute the CAO Gold cigar for similar enjoyment.
