El Triunfador by Tatuaje Cigars
El Triunfador by Tatuaje
Pete Johnson and his Tatuaje brand are known for a many things, two of which are full-bodied and full-flavored smokes. El Triunfador is a departure from the norm as it enters in as a squarely medium-bodied smoke. Although still very full flavored, the power of the El Triunfador can be handled all day long and doesn’t require a full meal and a chair to enjoy. Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos provide a nice bit of spice and flavor but the real star is the Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The medium brown wrapper gives just enough peppery spice to put El Triunfador just above the medium-bodied line.
Modeled after many different old school Cuban blends and flavors, the band too has an air of nostalgia to it. Gone are the flashy images and in their stead is an understated red and gold band with simplistic white lettering. First puff gave a slight bit of that characteristic Pepin spice, but not enough that it overpowers you. As we smoked this wonderful cigar we noticed a transformation from a straight medium body to a stick that was just slightly higher. The flavors of roasted nuts and coffee were ever present. The construction and draw were spot on.
El Triunfador is a yet another winner from the Johnson/Garcia team. A departure from the normally full-bodied smokes Tatuaje is known for, this stogie was never lacking flavor. The medium body made this a great all-day smoke and paired perfectly with our morning espresso. For a stronger cigar we highly recommend a My Father or Tatuaje Miami.
