Ashton Cabinet Cigars
The Ashton Cabinet cigar can stand on its own against any other world-class mild cigar. Built by Tabacalera Fuente for brand owner Robert Levin, this classic take on Connecticut wrapped cigars has as its foundation six different well-aged Dominican tobaccos, all at least 4 to 5 years removed from the day of harvest. The fine shade wrapper is even older, fermented to a deep, golden hue and patiently stored until needed by rolling room craftsmen.
The lions and crown atop the Ashton crest on the band lend a regal air to the event, a visual step up from the simple black and white bands of lower-end Ashtons. An earthy aroma wafts from the silky leaf housing the expertly bunched filler that provides just enough resistance to a pre-light draw. Crisp bursts of smoke greet the smoker once the cigar is aflame, and flavors of nutmeg and cream begin to roll over the palate. As the door opens on the second half of the cigar, layers of white pepper can be detected which keeps the whole affair from becoming too predictable and invites the smoker to continue to the nub.
An elegant mild cigar, the Ashton Cabinet can be savored by anyone who enjoys the nuances available in a blend of tobaccos meant for understated exploration. Avoid pairing with any strong beverage that might mask the more subtle flavors and you will find this a cigar one to add into regular rotation.
