Over the years, the legendary Gurkha name has become known for producing some of the finest and most expensive cigars in the world. Add unique to the aforementioned attributes, and you get Gurkha Royal Reserve Maduro, a cognac infused monster of a cigar no doubt made with royalty in mind. Brand owner and patriarch Kaizad Hansotia has come up with too many blends over the years to count, some cheap and easy to come by, and some, like this, that could be featured on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Rolled by his most skilled torcedors down in the Dominican Republic, Royal Reserve consists of a simple blend of 3-year-aged Dominican fillers and binders and a dark, rich 5-year-aged Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper. The catch? Each cigar is triple-infused with Louis XIII cognac, which many connoisseurs claim to be the finest cognac on the planet. This isn’t your typical infused cigar, however, as this is an ultra-premium exotic concoction that only the most sophisticated cigar junkies will ever have a chance to enjoy.

Highly-limited and difficult to come by, Gurkha Royal Reserve Maduro comes packaged in gorgeous 22-count chests. The box alone can easily become a centerpiece in any man cave or smoking lounge, and to add to the rare feel each chest comes with its own certificate of authenticity. The classic Gurkha band is loving wrapped around each 6 ½” x 53 torpedo, and a beautiful glass tube encompasses each and every cigar, finished with a classic wax seal. If the presentation doesn’t floor you, maybe the flavor will. Upon lighting, Gurkha Royal Reserve Maduro offers billowing ribbons of blue smoke greeting the palate with a mix of dark chocolate and earth. Immediately, the velvety cognac flavor makes its presence felt, carrying all the way through the experience. This brings about a lingering sweetness and hearty feel on the palate, beautifully combining with the classic maduro profile offered by the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The finish is long, chewy, and sweet, and the body is medium-full. This blend offers quite the opulent smoking experience.

It would be not only wasteful, but foolish to consider a cigar of this caliber if you are a beginner or intermediate cigar smoker. Only the most experienced connoisseurs with the most developed palates will truly be able to enjoy everything this stick has to offer. It smokes long, so make sure there is plenty of time to sit back and savor the luxurious nuances and complexities before lighting up. And don’t forget to pair it with a fine beverage. What would go better with a cognac-infused cigar than, well cognac? Those who may enjoy this cigar the most are likely those who enjoy the likes of Arturo Fuente  Opus X Lost City or Ashton ESG—both cigars sporting massive complexities and hints of cognac in the flavor profile. If you are a true connoisseur and think you are ready for a cigar fit for royalty, don’t hesitate to pick up a Gurkha Royal Reserve Maduro Torpedo while they’re still around!
