Cohiba Macassar Gigante Cigars
While ultra-premium cigars have long been a part of the landscape at General Cigar Co., sticks topping $20 at MSRP are still somewhat of a rarity for the company. Heck, that is a high price point for the industry at large. Cohiba Macassar is just one such cigar. With fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a Connecticut habano binder that are aged for four to six years separately before being rolled together, these Cohiba Macassar cigars are quite a treat. Add to that the knowledge that the last of those years of aging is while the leaves are finished in Dominican rum barrels, and this is about when you discover that you are about to taste something extraordinary.
This Cohiba Macassar brings forth flavors not often talked about in cigars, things like mango sweetness, gingerbread spice, cinnamon, and of course some of that signature Nicaraguan pepper that has to make its presence known. Licorice herbs, nuts, and bread come to call as the cigar picks up in body. Complexity abounds in the aromas and sensations that dance across your tongue towards the end of the stick with earth, herbs and natural tobacco rounding out the finish. Securely medium-bodied, medium to full in flavor, and just staunchly above a medium in strength makes this a very accessible cigar for all types of smokers.
Sadly, the cost of this cigar will keep it out of the reach of many, but it is a solid selection if you are looking to splurge. Even those not fans of Cohibas have been pleasantly surprised by this stick.
