Considered one of the giants in the cigar industry, Oliva has a history that dates back to the 1880s. Every product in the Oliva cigar line, in fact, owes its existence to the family’s longstanding association with tobacco growing and cigar production. Today, the Oliva family is considered the second largest grower of Cuban-seed tobacco in all of Nicaragua. Due to the massive inventory of tobacco grown by the Oliva family, even if you've never smoked an Oliva product, you've probably enjoyed a leaf from their farms.
The Oliva cigar line is extensive and is famed for its many flavors and styles. The company has earned numerous industry accolades for its high-quality blends that are sought after the world over. Oliva has time and time again earned top honors from Cigar Aficionado and the European Cigar Journal. Oliva was also named the Nicaraguan Brand of the Year in 2009.
In recent years, Oliva has created a separate arm for the development of new and edgy products deviating from their more traditional cigar lines. Studio Tobac is the name of that venture and so far they are responsible for the hugely popular Nub and Cain lines. They have also started some joint projects with other cigar companies beginning with the limited edition Studio Tobac Padilla release.
The releases from both Oliva and Studio Tobac are essentially two sides of the same coin. On one side you have the more traditional, old-school releases from the Oliva cigar lines, the Serie G, the Serie O, Serie V and the Master Blends 3. This side appeals to the older generation of smokers who have relied on Oliva cigars for years. The Studio Tobac side brings the Cain, Nub, and Studio Tobac collaborative releases. This side of the coin pushes the envelope with more exotic tobacco leaves, bolder blends, innovative new sizes, and some real slick marketing. The Studio Tobac offerings usher in a new The one thing that both sides of this same coin shares is an uncompromising commitment to making quality cigars. All of these cigars can be relied on for superior construction, consistent flavor, and even burn lines.

Oliva Serie O - To create this Oliva cigar series, habano seed was grown in three different regions of Nicaragua. The resulting Nicaraguan Puro is adored for its rich cedar flavor that offers hints of spice and dark tobacco. Subtle tea notes emerge on the finish.” The Oliva Serie O Churchill was rated a 90 point cigar in August of 2008 by Cigar Aficionado.

The Oliva Serie O Maduro Torpedo is the vitola we reach for most often.
Our Studio Tobac Offerings include the following brands:
Cain Cigars - On the heels of the success he found with the creation of Nub Cigars, Sam Leccia decided to play with the massive inventory of ligero leaf held in the Oliva family's tobacco stores. In doing so, he created a few different blends all comprised of primarily the hearty ligero leaf. The Cain Habano, Cain Maduro, Cain Habano F and the Cain Daytona are the first batch of cigar lines that have been released under the Cain brand. Nub versions of the Cain line are also available as the Cain Nub Habano, Cain Nub Maduro, and Cain Nub Daytona.
Nub Cigars - Originally conceived by then Oliva brand rep, Sam Leccia, these Nub cigars are designed to hit the “sweet spot” of a cigar right upon lighting as opposed to and inch or two down the stick. Many smokers love these short fat sticks as they can smoke the fatter ring gauges they love in half the time of a full sized cigar. The individual lines in the Nub family include the Nub Cameroon, Nub Connecticut, Nub Habano and Nub Maduro cigars. Nub versions of the Cain Habano, Cain Maduro, and Cain Daytona also exist.
Studio Tobac Collaborations - Oliva has long had strong relationships with other tobacco companies through the sales of their tobacco for use in other cigars. The Studio Tobac arm of Oliva has started to work with those other companies to create special limited release collaboration projects. The first release under this new umbrella was the Padilla Studio Tobac Figurado that was limited to 1000 sticks. Expect to see a lot more from this team in the near future.
Our Cain cigar line offerings include:
Cain Habano - Just when you think you know what you're in for, the Cain Habano will surprise you with unexpected smoothness. The Cain Habano is filled with triple fermented ligero leaf and complimented by a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper, this Cain delivers a complex smoking experience unlike any other. It is made up of 25% Esteli Ligero, 27% Condega Ligero and 30% Jalapa Ligero. Be sure to try the 90 point rated Cain Habano 654T.
Cain F - This thick, dark Nicaraguan wrapper is all that stands between you and three of the richest, most distinct Nicaraguan Ligeros the world has to offer. Perfectly balanced for a strong, but smooth burn, the Cain F is a high performance cigar designed for those in pursuit of a bold smoking experience. It is comprised of 32% Esteli Ligero. 25% Condega Ligero and 25% Jalapa Ligero. Cigar Aficionado rated the Cain F 550 a 92 saying that the “draw is a bit firm but instantly delivers rich, bold, notes of leather and spice that intensify in both flavor and body.”
Cain Maduro - With its rich, dark chocolate San Andreas wrapper and its straight ligero filler, the Cain Maduro brings out flavors rarely noted in Maduro cigars. This compelling blend of flavors will stimulate your senses for the ultimate smoking satisfaction. The Cain Maduro is made up of the same filler blend as the Cain Habano but it brings the Mexican maduro wrapper to the table to give this old dog a whole new trick. The Cain Maduro 660 Double Toro is our biggest seller and a cigar that certainly packs a punch. Eat before smoking and don't say we didn't warn you.
Cain Daytona - The Daytona stays true to it's Cain roots by being a “Straight Ligero” cigar, but Daytona's ligero is entirely from the Jalapa Valley. The Jalapa ligero is more refined than other ligeros. Jalapa ligero, plus the Cain triple-fermentation process, makes the Cain Daytona a medium to full-bodied, smooth, rich, and flavorful smoke. This cigar smokes much more evenly that one would expect anf packs woody flavors with sweet candy and nutty notes. Though the Cain Daytona 543 is currently my favorite size, be on the lookout for the Cain Daytona Lancero.
Our Nub cigar line offerings include:
Nub Cameroon - Grown in Cameroon, Africa this wrapper is distinctively thin and toothy. Rolled as a Nub, the Cameroon is a medium-bodied smoke with rich cedar and coffee notes. This stick is comprised of the African Cameroon wrapper that lovingly embraces a Nicaraguan bunched filler and binder. This cigar is toasty and nutty with a very nutty finish. Give the Nub Cameroon 466 Torpedo a try. It's a box pressed beauty.
Nub Connecticut - With its seed grown in Ecuador, the Connecticut wrapper is known for it's mild flavor. Rolled as a Nub, the Connecticut delivers a surprisingly complex and creamy flavor. The buttery toast and cedar flavors are present as well. Pick up the Nub Connecticut 460 and give it a smoke. It makes for a great first cigar or the day.
Nub Habano - - The wrapper of choice for Cuban cigar makers, the Habano has a robust, full-bodied flavor. Rolled in this Nub format, the Habano's bold spice softens to create a delicious new version of the famous leaf. Cigar Aficionado calls it “a toasty, spicy cigar with a coffee note and some dryness on the finish.” At Cigar Place, we smoke the Nub Habano 460 the most.
Nub Maduro - A favorite among smokers, the Nub Maduro's Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper is known for it's rich, dark chocolate appearance and flavor. As a Nub, the Maduro offers a full-bodied, but mellow smoke with notes of mocha, coffee, and earth with nougat like finish.
